Hi all. My mother-in-law, Carol, is in need of hearing aids and we are trying to gather the money to help pay for them. If you have a few dollars to help out we would appreciate it.

We Need Courage, Not Hope, to Face Climate Change – The On Being Project
Kate Marvel captures and expresses my feelings here:
We need courage, not hope. Grief, after all, is the cost of being alive. We are all fated to live lives shot through with sadness, and are not worth less for it. Courage is the resolve to do well without the assurance of a happy ending. Little molecules, random in their movement, add together to a coherent whole. Little lives do not. But here we are, together on a planet radiating ever more into space where there is no darkness, only light we cannot see.
Fascinator
You know, a fascinator.
Fireworks in Mira Mesa
I tried out the time lapse function on my camera last night. The video is limited to 15 minutes (real-time) at 900 frames at the highest frame rate (one frame per second). The fireworks went on for…16 minutes. Hence, the second video below with just the finale. The jump at the beginning is because my initial estimate for where the fireworks would be in the sky was off. When I shifted the camera I also ended up tilting it a bit, too, and I had no way to know until it was over. All in all a successful experiment.
